Prof Allan has pioneered the field of Fetal Cardiology. It was her preliminary work which laid down the foundation of the subject, the scanning planes and made recognition of antenatal cardiac defects a reality. She brought in the new subject of ‘Fetal Cardiology’ into medical science and has authored several textbooks on the subject. She initiated fetal cardiac scanning training programmes in the London teaching hospitals first and then internationally and is renowned as a clear, simple and easily understood teacher and trainer.
